Creating and Comparing Quote Options

Create alternative system and financing options, control what customers can compare, and promote the accepted option without losing the project history.

Quote options let you present meaningful alternatives without creating disconnected projects. Each option belongs to the same quote family, while keeping its own design, equipment, pricing, financing, production, and customer-facing description.

When to use quote options

Create options when a customer needs to compare genuine alternatives, such as different system sizes, equipment packages, storage configurations, financing structures, or project scopes. Avoid creating nearly identical choices that make the proposal harder to understand.

Understand the primary quote

Every option family has one primary quote. The primary option always leads the family and cannot be reordered behind its alternatives. It anchors the shared project relationship while the duplicate options hold their own commercial and design choices.

Create an option

Open the project’s design options and duplicate the most useful starting option. Duplication gives the new option a working copy of the current configuration so you can change only what is different.

Give the option a clear title and short description that explain the customer-facing distinction. Names such as Solar Only, Solar + Storage, or Maximum Offset are easier to compare than internal version numbers.

Change the system design

Open the duplicated option and adjust its array, equipment, storage, stringing, production, or other design details. Save the design so the option’s system size, quantities, production, and related pricing update together.

Each option should be reviewed as a complete system. Do not assume that electrical validation, production, or material quantities remain correct after changing equipment or layout.

Review pricing and incentives

Check the panels, inverters, batteries, equipment, racking-driven items, adders, deductions, taxes, incentives, and installation settings for the option. A duplicated option may begin with the source option’s commercial data, but it should be repriced for the revised scope.

Configure financing choices

Attach the financing structures you want customers to compare and choose the default financing view. The live proposal and generated proposal documents can compare cash and available loan structures while using the selected financing choice for payment, payback, ROI, and other financed figures.

Verify dealer fees, interest rates, terms, payment timing, and customer-facing disclosures before sending the proposal.

Choose which system options customers can see

Use the option visibility control to include or exclude an alternative from proposal comparison. This lets your team keep a working option without presenting it to the customer.

When multiple options are enabled, the proposal can display an option picker and comparison table. Review the proposal as the customer will see it and confirm that pricing, system size, production, equipment, storage, and financing differences are understandable.

Reorder the alternatives

Arrange the non-primary options in the order you want them presented. The primary quote remains first, while the alternatives can be reordered beneath it.

Promote another option to primary

If the customer prefers an alternative, promote that option to primary before downstream work depends on the final selection. Confirm that the chosen design, pricing, equipment, financing, proposal content, and documents all belong to the intended option.

Send and track the proposal

Send the proposal from the quote family after reviewing every visible option. Powerlily can deliver the proposal by email or customer SMS and record engagement, opening, and signing activity.

When the customer accepts and signs, keep the accepted configuration as the working project scope. Review any automation, operational handoff, invoice, or document generation that depends on the selected option.

Final review checklist

  • Every option has a clear customer-facing purpose.
  • The primary quote is the intended starting choice.
  • Each design has been saved and validated independently.
  • Pricing, incentives, taxes, and equipment match each option.
  • Financing details and disclosures are current.
  • Only intended options are enabled for customer comparison.
  • The comparison order is clear.
  • The proposal has been previewed on desktop and mobile.
  • The accepted option is primary before operational handoff and invoicing.
